Ko-Mar Productions Shoots WPTV Commercial

Ko-Mar Productions used their trusty Sony F3 to shoot some night exteriors to be included in various commercial and station promotional content. The Challenge was the tight time frame to shoot these shots and get the lighting done during daylight. This was the vision of WPTV's promotional manager, James McKay & company.

Setting up the Palm Beach county vehicles in twilight. The crew wet down the pavement for some reflections.

Anthony Angrisani (Gaffer) & Miles Henderson (Grip/Intern) raising the 1,200WT ARRI HMI.

Director Todd Kolich with WPTV Journalist, Dan Corcoran explaining the shot.

Anthony figuring out focus marks for the opening dolly shot.

Director, DP & client discussing the shots.

Night has arrived and time to shoot!

Director of Photography, Paul Piasecki and Anthony in handheld mode.

Last shot of the night, A POV of the Police caution tape unrolled from in front of the lens. Overall, we got the whole shoot done within a couple of hours on a typical hot Florida night.

Senate Debate 2012

We had the pleasure of  producing, crewing and lighting the Florida Senate Debate at Nova University in Davie, FL. Here are some behind the scenes photo's of the stage and sat truck.
This was a serious Satellite truck...
Control room..
Figuring out the lay out of the background and lighting. We pre-lit the day before and had time to tweek the
lighting and placement of the podiums.

Here is the basic set plot diagram

The set is starting to take shape. We had custom gobo light patterns made to project on the background.
Jose Flores adding a single bulb Kino-Flo to add some flattering lighting for the three panelist.
Final set with background elements and lighting set up ready for the candidates.
Live on the air to 7 million Florida households. The debate telecast went off without a hitch and looked great. We had a  lot of help with many professionals, too many to list. All in all it went great!

New City Mattress Spots

We had the opportunity to shoot another set of spots for a great client of Ko-Mar's, City Mattress. The idea seems simple, President of City Mattress,(http://www.citymattress.com) Marc Schiller will walk through some of their top brand mattresses against a clean, white background. Here's what it takes to do this shoot.

Dan Taylor's son help out for a few hours, it was bring your kid to work day, the lights are big. These are 8 Thousand Watt soft lights that fill in the overall look of the set (Cyc). We hung 4 of them!

Joe Joe Gallagher bringing in the artillery.

Gaffer Marty Segal and Audio/Grip extraordinaire, Dan Taylor put together the distro box from the generator to power up all the lights.

A lot of lights are hung from the grid, Dan has hold of a 5K and is diffusing the light with 216 gels.

Marty pointing the lights where he needs them.

Marketing and Promotions Director of City Mattress, Eric Anderson and DP Paul Piasecki start to lay out the pattern of the mattresses. We use a simple string and measuring tape to grid it all out.

Shown here are the big boys doing their thing, adding a lot of soft light!

Assistant Cameraman, Ryan Dee Setting up the Sony F3 for shooting. A lot goes into prepping the camera, changing lenses and getting all the settings right on the camera.

Best Boy, Shaw Burrows is adjusting the light, yes with a pole, no time to get the lift in the set.

Marc Schiller is in his position, we are using a Jimmy Triangle Jib with a 12ft extension. It is all done with a remote at the base and operator Jib Dave and assistant Jorge handle all that is done with the jib.

Director Todd Kolich, sizing up a shot with the jib. A lot of coordinating the jib move and Marc walking takes some time, but the results are worth the effort.

Executive Producer Jim Gallagher and Eric discussing the next shot.

Todd directing the extras in the background. They have to hit their specific camera positions behind Marc who is in the foreground.

At the end of a long couple days, one of the most important jobs on the set is audio.

Another great shoot! The crew: Jim Gallagher, Todd Kolich, Paul Piasecki, Anthony Angrisani, Jose Flores, Dan Taylor, Douglas Taylor, Marty Segal, Shaw hawk Burrows, Ryan Dee, Dave & Jorge from Michael Taylor Jibs, Bill Welsh (Editor)and Joe Joe!
